CHINA-ANTI-CORRUPTION: FORMER PARTY SECRETARY OF HANGZHOU EXPELLED FROM PARTY AND ARRESTED ON CORRUPTION CHARGES
The CDIC announced on January 26 that Zhou Jiangyong, former Party Secretary of Hangzhou -- the base
of Jack Ma’s Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. -- has been expelled over corruption charges relating to the
“disorderly expansion of capital,” serious violations of official duties, taking bribes and abuse of power. It
said investigations began in August last year and the case has now been handed over to the prosecutors.
(Comment: "Disorderly expansion of capital" is a slogan central to President Xi Jinping’s crackdown on
huge Chinese tech companies.)
