Xinjiang-Uyghur Autonomous Region Party Secretary Ma Xingrui held an Autonomous
Region Religious Work Conference in Urumqi on February 21. In his speech Ma Xingrui
emphasised the need to thoroughly study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's
important expositions on religious work, implement the spirit of the National Conference on
Religious Work and the Third Central Xinjiang Work Symposium, adhere to the direction of
Sinicization of China's religion, and actively guide Xinjiang's Islam to adapt to the socialist
society, and strive to open up a new situation for Xinjiang's religious work in a new era. Ma
Xingrui pointed out that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the National
Conference on Religious Work comprehensively summarized the achievements and
experiences of religious work, in-depth analysis of the situation and tasks facing religious work,
and systematically expounded new ideas, new concepts, and new strategies for religious work
in the new era. He said it is necessary to fully implement the party's basic policy on religious
work, adhere to protecting the legal, stop the illegal, curb extremism, resist infiltration, and
crack down on crimes, fully implement the party's policy on freedom of religious belief, and
actively guide religion to adapt to socialist society. Erken Tuniaz, Deputy Secretary of the
Autonomous Region Party Committee and Chairman of the Autonomous Region, presided over
the meeting. Xiaokaiti Yiming, Director of the Standing Committee of the Autonomous Region
People's Congress, Nuerlan Abdumanjin, Chairman of the Autonomous Region Political
Consultative Conference, Li Yifei, Deputy Secretary of the Autonomous Region's Party
Committee and Political Commissar of the Corps, and He Zhongyou, Deputy Secretary of the
Autonomous Region's Party Committee, attended the meeting. Zhang Chunlin, Deputy

responsible comrades related to religious work attended the meeting at the main venue. The
meeting was held in the form of a video and teleconference, with sub-venues set up in various
prefectures, municipalities and corps agencies, divisions, and cities.
