CHINA-NPC: CHINESE PRESIDENT XI JINPING DELIVERS TWO SPEECHES TO NPC/CPPCC SESSIONS

Chinese President Xi Jinping made two speeches at the ongoing NPC/CPPCC sessions in Beijing. In his first speech he highlighted, among other issues, how China should handle coal in meeting its carbon goals, as well as the "sense of community for the Chinese nation". In his second speech to CPPCC members, he stressed agriculture, food security, social welfare, and protecting women. In the second speech Xi Jinping stressed that the supply of major agricultural products, the supply of grain in particular, must be secured as the top priority, and upgrading the comprehensive capacity for agricultural production must be placed in an even more prominent position. The agricultural production strategy based on farmland management and application of technology must be carried out to the letter. Continued efforts must be made to promote the high-quality development of social security, and a better social safety net must be further developed to secure the wellbeing of the people. (Comment: Xi Jinping had earlier in the past year, noted that China is faced with a grim and complex international situation and formidable tasks of advancing reform and development while maintaining stability, particularly under the grave impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the CPC Central Committee has united and led the whole Party and the Chinese people of all ethnic groups to rise to the challenges and fight tenaciously and have accomplished many endeavours.)
