CHINA-FRANCE: XI JINPING TALKS TO FRENCH PRESIDENT MACRON ON MAY 10

Xinhua (May 10) reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping had a telephone conversation with French President Macron on May 10, when he said they have maintained close contacts and China and France, as permanent members of the UN Security Council and major independent countries, should adhere to the original intention of establishing diplomatic relations of "independence, mutual understanding, foresight, mutual benefit and win-win", and adhere to the positioning of a close and lasting comprehensive strategic partnership. He emphasized that it is necessary to plan the priorities of Sino-French cooperation in the next five years through the bilateral dialogue mechanism, and increase cooperation in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and clean energy while promoting cooperation in traditional fields such as civil nuclear energy and aerospace. He emphasised that the stable and healthy development of China-EU relations conforms to the interests of the people of China, Europe and other countries and appreciated France's adherence to strategic independence. Macron said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and China, the two sides have been actively developing France-China relations in the spirit of openness and that France is willing 16 to play an active role in promoting the development of EU-China relations. The leaders exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine and agreed that all parties concerned should support Russia and Ukraine to restore peace through negotiations. Xi Jinping emphasized that China has been promoting peace talks in its own way, and supports European countries in taking European security into their own hands. We must be particularly vigilant against the formation of group confrontation, which will pose a bigger and more lasting threat to global security and stability.
