CHINA-INDIA: PM's VISIT TO ARUNACHAL PRADESH

China upgraded its reaction to Indian Prime Minister Modi's visit to Arunachal Pradesh to inaugurate a newly laid railway line by summoning the Indian Ambassador in Beijing on February 21, 2015. In his demarche, the Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin, according to China's official news agency Xinhua, said that India had "undermined China's territorial sovereignty, right and interests" and that by visiting Arunachal Pradesh, Modi and the Indian government had "artificially amplified differences between the two countries on the border issue and thus went against the principles and consensus that the two sides reached on properly addressing the issue". He hinted that “the sound momentum in the growth of bilateral relations” and the “march toward the same goal with China” as well as “the important consensus on the border issue” can get affected. The initial Chinese reactions were given earlier by its Foreign Ministry spokesperson and in a demarche by the Chinese Embassy in Delhi.
